Though the judge insisted OJ Simpson’s sentencing Friday had nothing to do with his 1995 murder trial, it felt like payback for Ron Goldman’s family, USA Today reports. “It’s been a long time coming,” said Goldman’s sister. And after a civil verdict ordered the former football star to pony up millions, the Goldmans feel their relentless pursuit of Simpson’s assets “pushed him into this.”
Simpson was trying to recover his former memorabilia in the Vegas robbery that ultimately landed him a prison sentence, and was heard on tape saying he wanted to keep his property out of the Goldmans’ hands. “I think our pursuit of him pushed him into the shadows,” Kim Goldman said. Simpson was sentenced to a minimum of 9 years before parole, but his lawyers have filed an appeal.
