Barack Obama echoes most Americans’ war views, if not those of his national-security team, a Washington Post-ABC News poll finds. Though 27% fewer Americans are pessimistic about efforts in Iraq compared to 2 years ago, 70% say they want troops withdrawn within 16 months, as Obama has promised. Most—67%—say that war is not worth fighting, while 55% say the one in Afghanistan is.

Still, 51% say our efforts in Afghanistan aren't going well, and Americans are split on our prospects there: 49% are optimistic; 47% are pessimistic. The poll also gave President Bush his final ratings: 30% approve of the job he’s done, and 68% disapprove. (More President Obama stories.)
