Shooting Spree, Standoff May Be Linked: Dallas Cops
Police are investigating whether a man who shot himself during a standoff this morning could be connected to a series of rush-hour shootings that left two men dead last night in the Dallas area.   (Shutterstock)

Dallas authorities are comparing bullets to see if an former Utah state trooper who shot himself during a standoff with police early this morning was also responsible for a rush-hour shooting spree that left two people dead yesterday, the Dallas Morning News reports. Brian Smith, also suspected in a pharmacy robbery, remains on life support after attempting suicide.

After hours of standoff, Smith shot himself in the car when troopers approached. About 10 minutes after the pharmacy robbery, a man police suspect may have been Smith opened fire on four separate vehicles from the window his own, killing two drivers. Lab tests will tell the story, but one piece does not fit: The shooting-spree truck was a light-colored Ford pickup, which doesn’t match Smith’s vehicle.
