Caroline Kennedy has not donated much money to New York Democrats, and it could dent her appeal to Gov. David Paterson as he decides on his appointment to fill Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat, the New York Daily News reports. Although Kennedy has given around $30,000 to federal candidates, she’s given nothing to state politicians beside $1,000 to City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.

Kennedy is a “lifelong” supporter of New York Democrats, a spokesman countered, adding that she’s “given her time to many causes that New York Democrats hold dear.” Still, pols like John Liu aren’t sure: “My comfort level with Caroline would be enhanced knowing she is truly upholding the values espoused in the Democratic national platform, which I’m not sure has been fully demonstrated,” the city councilman said.
