Pakistan Mourns Bhutto on Anniversary of Slaying

Tens of thousands of Pakistanis have traveled to Benazir Bhutto's hometowm to mark the first anniversary of her assassination, Reuters reports. The former prime minister was killed in a gun and bomb attack at an election rally a year ago today. Many questions still surround the killing and the country's new government has called for the UN to investigate.

Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party won an election after the killing and now heads a coalition government. Her widower, Asif Ali Zardari, is now president. In a statement marking the anniversary, he said the assassination was an attack on the entire nation. "The tyrants and the killers have killed her but they shall never be able to kill her ideas that drove and inspired a generation to lofty aims," he said.
