Embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich considers himself in the same company as Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, and Mahatma Gandhi, reports the Chicago Tribune. With his impeachment trial in the Illinois state Senate set to begin today, Blagojevich, accused of plotting to sell President Obama's Senate seat, is amping up the martyr talk in an interview taped for the Today show this morning.

When busted last month by the FBI in what he called a "surreal" arrest, Blagojevich "thought about Mandela, Dr King, Gandhi, trying to put some perspective in all of this," he tells the Today Show. "I know I’ve done nothing wrong,” he adds, insisting the Senate trial is  "rigged and fixed." If 40 senators vote for his impeachment, Blagojevich will have to leave office immediately.
