The State Department is set to issue a swine flu travel warning, telling Americans to “avoid all nonessential travel to Mexico,” a US official tells Reuters. But at the same time, President Obama urged calm. “This is obviously a cause for concern,” he said. “But it is not a cause for alarm.” He said yesterday’s declaration of a public health emergency was simply a “precautionary tool.”

US officials also plan to release some of country’s anti-flu drug stockpiles, and have recommended local authorities prepare to close schools if necessary. (More Barack Obama stories.)
