Microsoft's New Search Engine: Bing
Bing is the new name of Microsoft's search engine. It was formerly called Live Search.   (Microsoft)

Microsoft wants “Bing” to replace “Google” as your verb of choice for Internet search, PC World reports, with CEO Steve Ballmer unveiling the search engine today at a conference in California. Bing—already available for a test run—will be fully rolled out by Wednesday. The runner-up name was Kumo, Japanese for “cloud.”

Microsoft says Bing provides intelligent search results, simplifies everyday tasks, and gives users more control over how results are organized. The company hopes its replacement for Live Search will close its gap on Google, which does 80% of online searches. Microsoft does just 6%, and industry experts say only a revolutionary product could lure people away from Google. (More Microsoft stories.)
