Denzel Washington said today he recently spent hours on the phone listening to John Travolta grieve over the death of his son, People reports. "Needless to say, he's struggling," said Washington at a press conference for their film, Taking of Pelham 1 2 3. "So more than talking to him, I listened to him, for about two or three hours."

Washington's wife Pauletta was closer to Travolta before the shooting of Pelham last year, but "I know him pretty good now, I think," Washington said. On the phone, he and Travolta "would sing songs, [be] telling jokes and singing Broadway tunes and all kinds of stuff." Travolta son, Jett, died of a reported seizure at age 16 on a family vacation in the Bahamas in January.
