Opposition presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi joined tens of thousands of Iranians in Tehran today to mourn those killed during post-election protests. Mousavi also vowed not to compromise on his demand for a fresh election when he and two others meet with Iran’s Guardian Council on Saturday to address the vote dispute, the Financial Times reports.
Many Iranians hope tomorrow’s weekly address by Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, will hint how the council will respond. Meanwhile, some 200 Mousavi supporters have been detained for allegedly inciting protests. That hasn’t seemed to deter protesters, who are planning another demonstration Saturday. At least eight people died earlier this week, but the violence has since subsided.
