Nine hours in a plane from Miami, 125 miles through the Uruguay countryside, and 15 minutes down dirt roads will bring you to the ritzy restaurant Garzón, where a plate of ravioli will set you back $48. Garzón, in the village of the same name, is Argentinian celebrity chef Francis Mallmann’s latest venture, and only he could pull it off, writes Katy McLaughlin in the Wall Street Journal.

Mallman, trained in Michelin-starred restaurants, has cooked for heads of state and created restaurants adored by the jet set. He bought up much of Garzón and is trying to build the nearly abandoned village, 30 minutes inland from Uruguay’s tourist beaches, into a second-home haven—one $230 lunch for two at a time.
