McDonald’s will roll out its deluxe Angus burger nationwide later this year, the Chicago Tribune reports. Until now, the one-third-of-a-pound burger made with premium beef has been available only in a handful of test markets. Though the fast-food chain has said publicly it would delay the launch until next year because of the economy, the Tribune obtained an internal document pegging it for August.
McDonald’s debuted the hefty sandwich—the chain’s most expensive, at an average of $4—in California in early 2007. The Tribune has previously reported that the burger will likely play a role in McDonald’s annual Monopoly promotion in October. Though the economy continues to stagnate, experts say new products can generate buzz and cash. It’s unclear if the Angus will join the menu permanently. (More McDonald's stories.)
