Kelly Preston will speak publicly for the first time about the death of her son, Jett Travolta, at an event in October, People reports. “If she can empower one other woman who feels like they can’t get out of bed, or get through the day, whatever the loss, it'll be worthwhile sharing her story,” says California first lady Maria Shriver, host of the Governor’s Conference for Women.
Elizabeth Edwards, who also lost a son, will join Preston on the “Grief & Resilience” panel. “She has been thinking about this for a couple of months,” Shriver says of Preston, and “decided if she was only going to speak once, it would be here. She wants the conversation to be about more than just her.” Meghan McCain, Caroline Kennedy, and Kate Gosselin are among other conference participants. (More Kelly Preston stories.)
