"I never understood this concept of honeymoon," President Obama told Katie Couric yesterday when the CBS interviewer asked about his sliding poll numbers. Obama said he wasn't too worried about a New York Times column from David Brooks saying he has fallen into step behind Nancy Pelosi on a Democratic "liberal suicide march."

"I don't spend a lot of time reading columns, Katie," he said. "Reforming this town, and working through these problems that have been unattended to for decades—that's not an overnight process. It certainly doesn't get completed in six months. But ultimately, the report card that I'll be interested in is after we've seen the work of this year, and into next year, and we start seeing some of these plans bear fruit."
