By now, we’ve gotten a pretty good look at the White House’s PR playbook, and as you may have noticed, Barack Obama gets the ball a lot. The president is everywhere, Politico reports. He’s given more interviews than any other recent president had at this point in their tenures, held more than a dozen town hall meetings, and his four primetime press conferences match Bush’s total for his entire presidency.

But with the president’s approval numbers waning, some wonder if the strategy is ill-advised. “They have to be careful,” said a former Clinton press secretary. “There are diminishing returns if you see the president too much.” TV networks, for example, were slow to sign on to tonight’s news conference. But Robert Gibbs dismisses those concerns, saying Obama needs to remind America what’s at stake. “I don’t think he can possibly say that enough.” (More Barack Obama stories.)
