Venus Williams came back from a slow start to defeat 3-seed Jelena Jankovic in the US Open quarterfinals last night. The Serb went up a set and a break but lost her momentum in the second, and ultimately falling 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 to the American superstar. Venus' sister Serena was eliminated from the tournament yesterday by Justine Henin.
Venus will now face Henin, the world #1 and last year's runner-up at Flushing Meadows, in the semifinals. In the night's other key matches, Anna Chakvetadze eliminated Shahar Peer and Svetlana Kuznetsova beat 18-year-old Agnes Szavay; Chakvetadze and Kuznetsova will now face off in the semis.
