The Pats showed why Vegas ranks them #1 by stomping the Jets 38-14 today, the AP reports. Randy Moss reclaimed his elite status by hauling in 9 passes for 183 yards, and Tom Brady shone, passing 22-of-28 and firing for 3 touchdowns on 297 yards. But the highlight of the day was Ellis Hobbs racing for a record-breaking 108-yard kickoff return.

Chad Pennington gave Jets fans a scare by taking a hard hit and limping off the field in pain. Some cheered Pennington’s replacement, Kellen Clemens, but Pennington returned a series later to silence doubters with a touchdown drive. He threw for 167 yards and two touchdowns, both to Laveranues Coles. Hobbs’ run-back broke the 106-yard record for longest kickoff return, held by 3 players. (More NFL stories.)
