Leading economic indicators beat expectations

Stocks rallied today as strong earnings from Travelers, McDonald's, and 3M fueled optimism. A report on leading economic indicators also provided good news, although traders were likely buying just to scoop up bargains from yesterday’s sell-off. The Dow rose 132 points to close at 10,081. The Nasdaq added 14 points, settling at 2,165, and the S&P 500 rose 12 to 1,093, the Wall Street Journal reports.
