OJ Simpson says he was just conducting a “sting operation” to retrieve items he says were stolen from him, but now Las Vegas authorities have named him a suspect in a hotel break-in. The ex-football star told the AP an auctioneer tipped him off to a secret sale of his collectibles, and he merely sought to reclaim them.

“It’s stolen stuff that’s mine. Nobody was roughed up,” Simpson said. He has had to auction sports memorabilia, including his Heisman Trophy, to pay the $33.5M civil judgment against him. Just yesterday, the Goldman family published his on-again, off-again tome, “If I Did It,” and subtitled it, “The Confessions of a Killer.” (More OJ Simpson stories.)
