Gentlemen, start your weatherizing. Cash for Caulkers, a program to provide financial incentives to homeowners to make their abodes more energy-efficient, looks like a go. The stimulus proposal has been kicking around Washington for a few weeks, but President Obama has taken a shine to it, reports the New York Times. He mentioned it yesterday and is expected to unveil it in more detail next week.
Under a rough outline, the government would split the cost with homeowners of weather-proofing their houses. Obama said it would "get contractors working again and generate more private activity." The program is expected to get money churning into big-box retailers such as Home Depot, which are expected to promote it heavily, as car dealers did with the Cash for Clunkers program.
