Some Republican members of Congress joined Family Research Council members in Washington last night for a “prayercast” asking God to stop the health care bill. The hour-long event was streamed live on the web, and the hosts said people in churches and homes everywhere were praying along. “The Bible’s very clear that prayer affects government,” said one co-host. “It’s the same yesterday, today and forever.”

Republicans who appeared included senators Jim DeMint and Sam Brownback. North Carolina Rep. Mike McIntyre, a Democrat, appeared by video message. The event ended with a 30-minute prayer, Talking Points Memo reports. “Give the kings sleepless nights across America,” the prayer read. “Lord, break into their hearts while they sleep.” (More religious right stories.)
