Pelosi Rips Obama Over Broken Campaign Promises

Evidently taking a hard line heading into conferences on Congress’ health bills, Nancy Pelosi ripped President Obama today for breaking campaign promises. Reminded that then-candidate Obama wanted such negotiations to be public, the House Speaker rejoined, “There are a number of things he was for on the campaign trail.”

The jab is a reference to a tax—in the bill passed by the Senate but not the one passed by the House—that taxes high-end (“Cadillac”) health plans. Aides tell Politico that Pelosi sees that levy as going against Obama’s promise not to raise taxes on the middle class—and further fuels her ire that he expects the House to cave in and go along with the Senate’s bill.
