The world's oldest man celebrated his 112th birthday yesterday, the BBC reports. Japan's Tomoji Tanabe, born in 1895, attributes his longevity to sticking to a daily routine, drinking milk and avoiding alcohol and cigarettes. "I want to live indefinitely," he announced. "I don't want to die."

Guinness World Records pronounced Tanabe the world's oldest after the prior record holder, Emiliano Mercado Del Toro of Puerto Rico, died at 115. Tanabe received $900—and flowers—from the mayor of his town of Miyakonojo to celebrate his birthday. Japan has over 30,000 centenarians, the most of any country. (More Japan stories.)
