John McCain and Sarah Palin had their well-publicized differences on the campaign trail, but things were no better over in Camp Obama-Biden, reports Politico in a look at further details emerging from Mark Halperin and John Heilemann's new book. Game Change reports that the prez and his veep were barely speaking, and that Obama aides hid conference calls from Biden, while others "kept a tight rein on him." Elsewhere in political gossip emanating from the book:

  • Bill Clinton enraged Teddy Kennedy while lobbying for the liberal lion's endorsement for his wife, telling him, “A few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee." Kennedy endorsed Obama in response.
  • Hillary Clinton weighed a last-minute run in 2004; ultimately Chelsea dissuaded mom, saying voters wouldn't forgive her for not serving out her Senate term.
  • John McCain was supposed to practice for his first debate against RNC chair Michael Steele; he refused out of fears of racial insensitivity.
  • “If I’d known everything I know now, I would not have” accepted the vice presidential nomination, Sarah Palin moaned after her fateful interview with Katie Couric. Palin's camp denies she made the quote.
