Rise of the One-Day Biz Trip

As businesses cut costs, more employees are traveling—even overseas—without staying overnight. “I'm not sure everybody has the stamina to get up at 4 AM for a 6 AM flight and get home at 9," said one traveler—who totaled 100,000 miles last year but only stayed in hotels half of that time. "But as we try to do more with less, that's what's required."

Though most single-day trips involve flights of three hours or less, some are longer—one consultant flew from Connecticut to Asia and back without a hotel stay—and one expert fears the practice “could be harmful to your health," reports USA Today. But it’s not just money driving the trend. “It’s a secure feeling of being home,” said the consultant. “People want to be in their own beds, in their own cities.”
