If Scott Brown pulls off a Massachusetts victory tonight, Michael Steele wants to be sure that he and his Republican National Committee get their share of the credit. The RNC has been "working very diligently behind the scenes" for 3 months, he wrote in a memo to members obtained by the Wall Street Journal. “Never in the history of our party have so many fellow Republicans from all over the country worked so hard to help another state. This is a model for campaigns of the future.”
Steele says the group has "stayed out of the limelight" in the race but has supplied computers and phone lines, sent "multiple" staffers to Massachusetts in November to work full-time, and has sent streams of other workers and volunteers ahead of Election Day. “If we succeed tonight this will be a victory for our ideas, for our principles, and for the people of Massachusetts.” (More Massachusetts senate race stories.)
