Four Contenders in the Quest for the 'Female Viagra'

Good news for women with lagging libidos: The market for drugs and devices that stoke a woman’s desire is set to explode in the coming years. Vogue looks at some of the pills, shots, and jolts in development:

• Orgasmatron: The decidedly unsexy combination of electrodes in your lower spine and a battery in your hip may be fully implantable in a few years (right now, paralysis, infection, and incontinence could occur if things go haywire)—for $12,000.

• LibiGel: A testosterone gel rubbed into your upper arm daily. One woman in the clinical trial says she is now “definitely more open” to sex.
• Bremelanotide: A hypodermic injection promising hours of arousal, dreamed up after the nasal spray version failed.
• Flibanserin: Developed as an antidepressant, the pill succeeded only in making people feel sexy. But, like everything on this list, experts are concerned about the risks and lack of long-term information.
