US Playing Major Role in Yemen Strikes

American military teams have been secretly assisting Yemeni troops as the nation steps up its campaign against al-Qaeda. The teams, which include dozens of troops from Joint Special Operations Command, haven't been taking part in the strikes that have killed scores of suspected terrorists but have been involved in planning and providing weapons, the Washington Post reports.

Highly sensitive information has been shared with the Yemenis, leading to strikes authorized by President Obama which have killed 6 of the top 15 leaders of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. Several US citizens, including an imam linked to the Fort Hood shootings, are on the CIA and special command's lists of "high value targets" to be killed or captured in Yemen.
