Fans who have long awaited Holden Caulfield's move from adolescence to retirement hope they'll soon be reading something new from JD Salinger. The author—whose last published book was in 1963—is widely believed to have kept a stack of finished, unpublished works in a safe in his New Hampshire home, AP reports.
A neighbor said in 1999 that Salinger told him he had 15 novels in the safe. Salinger's daughter wrote in her 2000 memoir that the author had earmarked some works for posthumous publication. But it remains unknown whether the safe really contains Salinger works and if they will be released if it does. Salinger's literary agent, publisher, and son have so far refused to comment on one of literature's greatest mysteries.
