Gays Blast Buju Banton Grammy Nod

Gay rights groups angered at notoriously anti-gay reggae singer Buju Banton's Grammy nomination are urging organizers to use Sunday's awards show to denounce him. Banton—up for a best reggae album award for his Rasta Got Soul album—called for the murder of gay men in his 1988 hit Boom Bye Bye and said last year that he sees "no end to the war" between himself and gay men.

The gay rights groups have taken out a full-page ad urging Grammy organizers to denounce music " that promotes or celebrates violence against any group of people," Reuters reports. The Recording Academy says the awards honor music " regardless of politics." Banton won't be at the Grammys—he's in a Florida prison awaiting trial on cocaine charges.
