China reports moderation in consumer price inflation

Energy and materials stocks led broad advances on the markets today, as investors were encouraged by a better-than-expected weekly US jobs report and news of slowing Chinese inflation, the Wall Street Journal reports.

  • The Dow jumped 106 points to close at 10,144.
  • The Nasdaq added 30 points, settling at 2,177.
  • The S&P 500 rose 10 points, closing at 1,078.
