1 in 3 Fear Being 'One of Those iPhone People'

It's “dangerously alluring,” but the iPhone makes most Stanford students so giddy that they don’t really care. About a third of respondents in a recent study said they worried about becoming addicted to the gadget. But the torrid affair is far from over—roughly three-quarters said that it makes them happier and that they'd fallen asleep in bed with their "little friend." Some 58% “love it,” which could explain why 41% say losing it would be a “tragedy.”

The professor in charge of the survey says the strong feelings elicited by the iPhone make sense given the gadget’s interconnection with the respondents’ lives. “It had so much personal information that it became a kind of extension of the mind,” she tells the San Jose Mercury News. “It just kind of captured part of their identity.” And their hearts, apparently.
