President Obama has donated the $1.4 million he got with the Nobel Peace Prize to 10 charities, with a heavy emphasis on education. The most money, however, went to Fisher House, which provides care for patients at VA and military hospitals. It gets $250,000, while the Clinton-Bush Haiti fund gets $200,000.
Six other charities, all education-related, received $125,000: the College Summit; the Posse Foundation, which awards scholarships to public high school students; the Appalachian Leadership and Education Foundation; the Hispanic Scholarship Fund; and the American Indian and United Negro college funds. AfriCare and the Central Asia Institute, which works toward girls' education and literacy in Afghanistan, both received $100,000.
