Steve Jobs: 'I Almost Died' Waiting for New Liver

Steve Jobs made some rare public comments today about the liver transplant that saved his life, saying, “I almost died” while waiting in California’s inadequate system. The Apple chief, 55, appeared with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger at an event to push a bill that would make state drivers agree or decline to donate organs when they get a license, rather than have to affix a donor sticker themselves, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

“I was fortunate,” Jobs said of having access to an organ that became available in Tennessee. “Last year, 400 other Californians died waiting.” The current state of affairs, he added, is “an obscure process” with “no one asking the simple question: Will you donate your organs?”
