Palm Aims $100 Smart Phone at the Masses
Palm's new Centro is a Smart Phone aimed at a mass market.   (Palm)

While smart phones took a leap forward with the iPhone, it didn't quite end up in the hands of soccer moms everywhere. But by combining Treo hardware with an appealing $99.99 price-tag, Palm's new Centro aims to bridge the price gap that kept smart phones from the masses, CNET reports—sleekly packaged with easier internet access.

While only 4% of 213 million US cell phones are smart phones, experts think that's because most smart phones cost upwards of $300. The Centro, however, is priced like an ordinary phone, is roughly the same size, and uses a faster network than the iPhone. If Apple caters to those who've got, the Centro aims to appeal to those who've not. (More iPhone stories.)
