MSNBC has suspended David Shuster indefinitely, following a report that he had filmed a pilot for CNN. That report broke Friday, and MSNBC said the host would be “punished appropriately.” Now, the network has confirmed for Mediate that he’s off the air, to be replaced in the short term by Contessa Brewer at 10am, and by Ed Shultz at 3pm. His new executive producer—Fox News alum Gresham Streigel—will continue to oversee both hours.
It’s not the first time Shuster’s been suspended—he was yanked for two weeks in 2008 for saying the Clintons had “pimped out” daughter Chelsea, and pulled off Twitter this year following an exchange with James O’Keefe. His contract is up at the end of this year. (More David Shuster stories.)
