Curt Schilling pitched seven shutout innings as his teammates put together a 9-1 thrashing of the Angels yesterday to sweep the American League Division Series, the Boston Globe reports. The Red Sox outscored the Angels 19-4 and owned all five home runs in the series, two of which came back-to-back from David Ortiz and Manny Ramierez yesterday.

Mike Lowell added two doubles, and eight of Boston's batters notched RBIs, seven of them coming in a marathon eighth inning that saw three Angels pitchers and 10 Red Sox batters rotate through the infield. The Angels, plagued by injury and illness, are headed home as the Sox wait to find out whether they will face the Indians or Yankees in the ALCS. (More MLB stories.)
