Tainted drugs likely killed one reveler at a San Francisco-area rave and left 5 others fighting for their lives, according to police. More than 70 people were busted at the Cow Palace event and police are testing the ecstasy tablets, LSD, and methamphetamine seized at the scene for toxic substances, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The death of a 23-year-old man is being treated as suspicious.
Officers suspect somebody at the rave was either selling or giving away drugs that may have been deliberately cut or accidentally contaminated with a toxic substance. The symptoms—including kidney failure and internal bleeding—"are very severe in some of the victims, and they go beyond what is normally seen in simple drug overdoses," said a police spokesman.
