There’s a distinct possibility Barack Obama will show Stanley McChrystal the door, Robert Gibbs told reporters today. “He was angry,” Gibbs said, calling the gravity of McChrystal’s comments “profound.” He repeatedly refused to offer the general a vote of confidence, the Washington Post notes. “All options are on the table,” including firing McChrystal, Gibbs said, adding that the war effort is “bigger than any one man.”
A furious Joe Biden called Obama last night to tell him to read the now-infamous Rolling Stone profile. A shocked Obama swiftly distributed the article to his senior advisers and held an emergency strategy discussion, in which they decided to call McChrystal back to Washington for the face-to-face.
