Minnesota halfback Adrian Peterson made a strong case for Rookie of the Year honors, racking up 361 all-purpose yards—3rd most in history—in a 34-31 win. Against a misfiring Chicago defense, the Oklahoma product rumbled for three long touchdowns, then rattled off a 53-yard kickoff return to set up the winning field goal.

Peterson's output overcame big games from Bears Devin Hester (two 80-plus-yard touchdowns, one on a punt return) and Brian Griese (381 yards), reports the Chicago Tribune. A frustrated Chicago defender cited his team's missed tackles on Peterson: "Give him his credit--he's going to be one of the great ones. But it wasn't all him today." (More NFL stories.)
