British researchers say they've solved the age-old conundrum, "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" Their money's on the chicken. The eggshell can't be formed without a protein from the chicken's ovaries, they say. So unless it's been in the chicken first, no egg is possible, reports the Daily Mail.
'It had long been suspected that the egg came first but now we have the scientific proof that shows that in fact the chicken came first," says one of the scientists from Sheffield University, adding: "Understanding how chickens make egg shells is fascinating in itself but can also give clues towards designing new materials and processes."
