The Angels will announce tomorrow that general manager Bill Stoneman will leave his post while staying with the team as a consultant, reports the Los Angeles Times. Stoneman gave instant credibility to a team that had only seen the playoffs three times in its previous four decades. Their only World Series win came in his third year on the job.

Stoneman joins other noteworthy GMs to step down at the close of the 2007 season: John Schuerholz of the Braves, Terry Ryan of the Twins, and Walt Jocketty of the Cardinals are also leaving. Stoneman is expected to be succeeded by an internal candidate, minor-league director Tony Reagins. (More MLB stories.)
