BP Didn't Cause Lockerbie Bomber Release: Cameron

British PM David Cameron said he has seen no evidence suggesting that BP—his nation's largest company—persuaded the Scottish government to release Lockerbie bomber Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, the AP reports. Cameron said he understood American "frustrations" with BP over the spill, but said no evidence supports the contention that the Scottish government was "in any way swayed by BP" in order to strike an oil deal with Libya.

He said Scotland made the decision on compassionate grounds, though he disagreed with it. "It was the biggest mass murder in British history, and there was no business letting him out of prison," he said. President Obama agreed in their joint press conference:"I think all of us here in the United States were surprised, disappointed and angry."
