A letter to conservative radio show host Rush Limbaugh from 41 Democratic Senators sold yesterday on eBay for $2.1M, a record for an eBay item sold to benefit charity. The Dems who wrote the letter objected to Limbaugh labeling Iraq veterans critical of the war as "phony soldiers," the New York Times reports.

Limbaugh called the letter a "jewel of colossal ignorance," and sold it to benefit a charity  that helps families of marines killed or wounded in duty. A member of the group's board, he pledged to match the sale price with a personal donation. The Eugene B. Casey Foundation, which bought the letter, cited its belief in freedom of speech and a desire “to support Rush Limbaugh, his views and his continuing education of us.” (More Rush Limbaugh stories.)
