Medical Marijuana May Cost You Your Job

Talk about a buzzkill: Americans using doctor-prescribed marijuana are losing their jobs when they, somewhat predictably, fail drug tests. Though medical marijuana is now legal in 14 states, it remains unclear if employers are legally bound to keep pot-toking employees, notes the New York Times. '“It’s a safety issue," says one company rep.

This "safety issue" is costing people in need. Joseph Casias, a father of two who uses marijuana to treat pain from inoperable brain and sinus cancer, lost his job at Wal-Mart after testing positive for drugs. Says his lawyer: “The cancer is not what’s keeping him from earning a living — Wal-Mart is.” With help from the ACLU, he's now taking them to court. (Click here to read about "pot school.")
