A senior Kenyan government minister, expected to be a leading presidential candidate in next year's election, was killed in a helicopter crash today, reports Reuters. Minister for internal security George Saitoti, along with his deputy, several bodyguards, and the pilot, were killed when the police helicopter carrying them crashed in a forest just outside Nairobi. The cause of the crash is not yet known. Saitoti had served as vice president for 13 years. "It's a sad day for Kenya," says a Cabinet minister. "We could have avoided this accident with better equipment." (More Kenya stories.)
