It did seem a little too bizarre to be true: The hitchhiker who told police he got shot on a Montana highway has admitted that he shot himself, reports AP. The case drew national headlines because Ray Dolin said he was hitchhiking to gather tales for a memoir he was writing called Kindness in America. He told cops that someone in a maroon pickup shot him in the arm and took off, and he was so convincing that police later arrested a driver and charged him with felony assault. Those charges were dropped, and now Dolin might face a few of his own. (More hitchhiking stories.)
