Laura Ricketts attends a lot of political fundraisers targeting gay donors, and she's noticed something: There aren't a lot of lesbians in attendance. That's one of the reasons why Ricketts, whose family owns the Chicago Cubs, has signed on as one of the founding members of LPAC, an independent pro-lesbian super PAC designed to promote LGBT issues and women's sexual and reproductive rights, the AP reports. It's a far cry from her father's conservative super PAC, which planned to use Jeremiah Wright to attack Barack Obama in this campaign cycle.
Other big-name supporters include Jane Lynch and Billie Jean King. The group's fundraising goal for the year is just $1 million, which is modest by super PAC standards. "If it raises $5 million, amazing," says chairwoman Sara Schmidt. "But if it raises $500,000, we have still raised $500,000 for critical races and it's being raised from lesbian leaders whose voices may not have been heard before." The group plans to back both men and women, gay or straight, from either party. (More Jane Lynch stories.)
