With Apple's stock falling, everyone's wondering when the company will launch its "next big thing" to save the day, writes Farhad Manjoo at Slate. Will it be an iWatch or maybe a TV? Nope, turns out the next big thing actually arrived in 2010—it's called the iPad. Manjoo makes the case that the tablet will surpass the iPhone in sales in 2015, and "after that, our picture of Apple will change. It will be the world’s biggest tablet company, one that also dabbles in phones and Macs."

The iPad is simply a lot better than any of its competitors, thanks to all those apps, and it keeps widening the gap each year. The $329 Mini might be hurting short-term profit margins, but the long-term strategy of locking in all those users at a lower price—as with the iPod strategy—is a winning one. So ignore all the chatter about some marvelous new gizmo. "In our obsession with the new, we’re missing the potential of the old," writes Manjoo. "The iPad is going to be huge. Just watch."
