Boston's police chief says the FBI never informed his department that it investigated Tamerlan Tsarnaev a while back after getting a warning from Russia. Would it have mattered? Ed Davis told a House panel today that it's impossible to say but that his department "absolutely" would have taken its own look at Tsarnaev. “When information is out there that affects the safety of my community, I need to know that,” he said, reports the Boston Herald.

Lawmakers dwelled on the point, reports Fox News. "The idea that the feds have this information and it's not shared with the state and locals defies why we created the Department of Homeland Security in the first place," said Texas Republican Michael McCaul, who chairs the House's homeland security panel. “We can and we must do better.” Meanwhile, one big loose end has been tied up: Tamerlan's body has been buried.
